Here are my top tips of the day to sneak that meditation into your life easily.
Resisting meditation? I am with you! Some days I can come up with a lot of excuses why not to meditate. Too tired. Will do it later. It is boring. Don´t have the time. I am too stressed. As if I don´t have 5 minutes to spare? Or one minute? As if meditation won´t give me energy or lower my stress? Did you know that the same part of the brain lights up when we try to avoid something as when we experience negative emotions?
So maybe it is not that strange that we find it difficult to convince ourselves to do things we would just not rather do right now.
But there are ways to get through.
My top tips are:
-Be kind to yourself and say that you will just sit down for three breaths. Perhaps ten? And maybe a minute. It is not a competition.
-If you find sitting in stillness just breathing too boring, find a meditation app that you like. i use InsightTimer which is amazing! So try guided meditations, meditating to music or sounds of water.
-Go outside and close your eyes and just listen to the sounds of nature or of the city. And breathe. You can do this on the way to work. Just stop for 30 seconds and be.
-Sit down on a chair and close your eyes. Just check in with what is going on in your body. Notice any sensations, emotions.... Just for 30 seconds. Then open your eyes.
And if none of those work: Feel the resitance and do it anyway. Explore what happens!
