"Spanning much of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the novel follows the fortunes of the extraordinary Whittaker family as led by the enterprising Henry Whittaker—a poor-born Englishman who makes a great fortune in the South American quinine trade, eventually becoming the richest man in Philadelphia. Born in 1800, Henry’s brilliant daughter, Alma (who inherits both her father’s money and his mind), ultimately becomes a botanist of considerable gifts herself. As Alma’s research takes her deeper into the mysteries of evolution, she falls in love with a man named Ambrose Pike who makes incomparable paintings of orchids and who draws her in the exact opposite direction—into the realm of the spiritual, the divine, and the magical. Alma is a clear-minded scientist; Ambrose a utopian artist—but what unites this unlikely couple is a desperate need to understand the workings of this world and the mechanisms behind all life."
Then I found Lisa Lister and Rebecca Campbell. I was just hanging around on Book Depository.com and was suddenly drawn to two books. The first one was Love your lady landscape by Lisa Lister. The title might be funny, but woman, this is a book you need to read. It is about the sacredness of our bodies and of our yoni. It is about learning to listen to, and follow both the cycles of nature and of our bodies. This is nothing new to me in a sense, but the way Lisa writes is direct, funny, and very inspirational! I absolutely LOVE it! I have had her oracle cards The Sassy She for a few years and they are just as amazing.
The second part of the title of the book is: Trust your gut, care for down there and reclaim your fierce female SHE power.
Let us all say YES to that!
Then I went straight to Rebecca Campbell´s book Rise Sister Rise. At first I had forgotten I had bought it, but as I was packing for my trip to England late April/early May I got it out. I started reading it on the plane and was moved to tears.
It started with her story of a pilgrimage to, among other places, Glastonbury, the Sacred isle of Avalon. And that is where I was going. As you might know I trained as a Priestess there and have been part of many Goddess conferences and ceremonies there over the last 15 years. In Avalon is where I started on a new journey in my life. That is where I first found true sisterhood and it is where I truly found my connection with Goddess. It is magical.
The book is a call to arms for women to stand up. To be who we are and follow our hearts, our souls and our own rhythms. To have the courage to step out of the patriarchal patterns and rules. To follow our cyclical nature and honour ourselves as who we truly are.
Yes, others have written about it before, but this book spoke straight to my heart and soul.
I absolutely love it.
I am now waiting for Lisa Lister´s book Code Red to be in stock at the Book Depository and I will get it straight away. I am hooked!
Sending you love and blessings on your journey!
